SEVA
TRUST is a voluntary social service organization started in 1985 by a team of volunteers and after one year of experience in serving the urban poor as charity workers, the organization got Registered as a Trust in 1986 under the Societies Registration Act of Tamil Nadu and recognized by the Ministry of Home Affairs Government of India with FCRA certification 1987.
SEVA Trust is a non-profit, non-commercial and non-political organization rendering services to the poorest of the poor, living below the poverty line. Its primary target groups are the women, children, adolescence, disabled persons and people affected by disasters. Nevertheless, priority is given to people belong to the marginalized sections of the society.
SEVA Trust involved in various fields of social development work and positioning as a support organization to many grass root groups in organizing themselves and facilitates small players attaining equality, social justice and freedom from exploitation. It was started as a charity organization, later it has adopted development concepts without loosing the basic character as Charity Organization.
In collaboration with UNICEF, the Trust Team involved in prevention of Iodine deficiency disorders (IDD) by promoting consumption of iodized salt through awareness campaign at the state level. SEVA provided consultancy to more than 350 consumer groups in Tamil Nadu and involved them in consumption of iodized salt campaign.
To serve the highly marginalized and neglected children, two small projects are implemented with the help of donors from Germany. Both are primarily facilitating education of children of quarry workers. One is a Day Care Center Project near a mine in Dhaneswer village Rajasthan and the other one is an Evening School Project for the children of Irula tribe at Valavanthan village near Kancheepuram. Together, 120 children are being helped to experience a happy and healthy childhood, enjoy their child rights, assured of their education without any break in spite of migration of their families.
